Since 1965, Rural Resources Community Action has helped residents of Northeastern Washington help themselves and each other. Through education, resources and support, we offer real hope to children, seniors and families, by working to create a stronger and more stable community for us all.

Each year, 14,000 people in Ferry, Pend Oreille and Stevens Counties turn to Rural Resources for short-term assistance and long-term solutions to help them take control of their lives and their futures.

U.S. Senators support Community Services Block Grant
One of Rural Resources' primary sources of funding for the work we do in our community - the federal Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) - was endorsed in May by bipartisian members of the U.S. Senate, including Washington's own Sen. Maria Cantwell.

CSBG supports strategies to empower low-wage working families to achieve economic security. Here at Rural Resources, it helps pay for programs like energy assistance and job training. In May, 43 U.S. Senators, led by Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Charles Grassley (R-IA), and including our state’s Sen. Cantwell signed a joint letter to the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services and Education, asking for an increase for CSBG in 2008.

We commend Sen. Cantwell and others who defend the federal funding that Community Action Agencies use to fend off poverty in our community and make such a difference in the lives of individuals and families.
